How to Change Your WordPress Login URL

In this post, we’ll see how to change your WordPress login URL. Doing so will improve your WordPress blog’s security.

Let’s get started.

Change Your WordPress Login URL

Install and activate the "WPS Hide Login" plugin (if you need any help with this, check out our WordPress plugin installation guide).

After you’ve done that, hover your mouse over "Settings." Now, you can see "WPS Hide Login." Hit it.

You can see that your login URL is "yoursitename.com/login/" now.

WPS Hide Login section

I highly recommend you to change that "login" portion with something secure and easily remembered by you.

Here’s how you can do that: Remove the content in the field which is beside "Login url" and enter the one you prefer.

keep in mind that it is your login URL.

Also, note that you can set where to redirect others who try to access your blog's wp-login.php page or wp-admin directory.

By default, they’ll be redirected to "404." If you wish to change it, then here’s how you can do that:

Clear the content in the field which is beside "Redirection url" and enter the URL you prefer.

Make sure to hit "Save Changes" button after you’ve done changes.

That’s it. All done.

Notes:

  • Bookmark the login page if you wish.
  • If you delete or deactivate the plugin, then you can access your blog's wp-login.php page and wp-admin directory which you can use to log in.
  • In case, if you forget the login URL, then remove the "wps-hide-login" folder in your "plugins" folder. After that, you can access wp-login.php and wp-admin.
