How to Disable Read Receipts on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has a tick system which will show:

A single grey tick which means that the message is sent.

The single grey tick will turn into double grey ticks when the message is delivered to the recipient.

The double grey ticks will turn into blue when the recipient reads the message, and this is known as "Read receipts" feature (also referred as blue ticks).

By default, this feature is enabled on WhatsApp, which let the sender know that the recipient reads his/her message.

But, if you wish, you can disable it. And, before we see the steps to do that, here are some important things:

  • angle-double-right
If you turn off Read receipts, then the sender can't see blue ticks when they send a message to you, and you too can't see it when you send a message to someone.
  • angle-double-right
Disabling read receipts only applies to contacts and not for groups.

With that said, let's see the steps.

Disable Read Receipts on WhatsApp

  • angle-right
    Open WhatsApp.
  • angle-right
Hit the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) > Settings > Account > Privacy.
  • angle-right
Under "Messaging," you can see the "Read receipts." Hit it.
Turned off Read receipts option

That's all. The Read receipts feature is disabled successfully.

If you want to enable it in the future, follow the above steps, and it will be activated.

I hope that the information in this post is useful to you. If it is, share this post with your friends.
