Disable Vibration in WhatsApp

By default, your device will vibrate whenever you receive a WhatsApp message or call.

If you wish, you can disable vibration for an individual chat and all chats. Let’s see how to do these tasks on an Android phone.

Disable Vibration for Individual Chat

Note: The following steps are for the individual group too.

Open WhatsApp. Hit the chat of a contact for which you want to turn off vibration. Tap the name at the top.

Now, you can see “Custom notifications.” You can find it between “Mute notifications,” and “Media visibility.” Hit it. Hit “Use custom notifications.”

In the “Message notifications” section, you can see “Vibrate.” Hit it. Select “Off.”

If you want to turn off the vibration for WhatsApp calls, hit “Vibrate” in the “Call notifications” section. Select “Off.”

Note: if you want to revert, hit “Use custom notifications.”

Disable Vibration for All Contacts and Groups

​Open WhatsApp. ​Hit the three vertical dots > Settings > Notifications.

If you want to disable vibration for all contacts, then tap the “Vibrate” in the “Messages” section. In the pop-up, select “Off.”

If you want to turn off the vibration for all group chats, then tap the “Vibrate” in the “Groups” section. In the pop-up, select “Off.”

If you want to turn off the vibration for WhatsApp calls, then hit the “Vibrate” option in the “Calls” section. In the “Vibrate” pop-up, select “Off.”

Note: if you want to revert, follow the above steps, and instead of selecting “Off,” select “Default.”


By default, popup notification in WhatsApp is disabled.

If you wish, you can enable it for individual and all chats. Let’s see how to do these tasks on an Android Phone.

Enable Popup Notification for Individual Chat

Note: The following steps are the same for the group chat too.

Open WhatsApp. Hit the chat of a contact for which you want to turn on popup notification. Tap the name at the top.

Between the “Mute notifications,” and “Media visibility,” you can see “Custom notifications.” Hit it. Hit “Use custom notifications.”

In the “Message notifications” section, you can see “Popup notification.” Tap it.

In the pop-up, select the one you prefer (except “No popup”). If you’re not aware of what the options in the pop-up do, then please refer to the next section in this post.

Note: if you want to revert, then turn off “Use custom notifications.”

Turn on Popup Notification for All Contacts and Groups

Open WhatsApp. Hit three vertical dots at the top > Settings > Notifications.

If you want to enable popup notification for the chat of all contacts, then follow the below steps:

In the “Messages” section, you can see “Popup notification.” Tap it. Now, you can see a pop-up with the following four options:

  • No popup – disable the popup notification.
  • Only when screen “on” – popup notification will appear only when the screen is on.
  • Only when screen “off” – popup notification will appear only if the screen is off.
  • Always show popup – popup notification will appear regardless of the status of your screen.

Pick the one (except “No popup”) you prefer.

If you want to enable popup notification for all group chats, then follow the below steps:

In the “Groups” section, you can see “Popup notification.” Hit it. Now, you can see a pop-up with the four options we’ve seen earlier. Pick the one you prefer (except the “No popup”).

Note: if you want to revert, follow the above steps, and select “No popup.”


Customize WhatsApp Notification Sound and Ringtone

By default, notification sound and ringtone of your Android device are set as the WhatsApp notification sound and ringtone for all contacts and groups.

But, if you wish, you can customize WhatsApp notification sound and ringtone for an individual contact, individual group, and all contacts and groups.

Let’s see how to do these tasks on an Android phone.

​Individual Contact

​Open WhatsApp. Tap the “New chat” icon. Find and tap the contact you want. Tap contact name at the top.

Now, tap “Custom notifications.” Select “Use custom notifications.”

Tap “Notification tone” in the “Message notifications” section. In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Select the notification tone you prefer and then tap Ok.

Tap “Ringtone” in the “Call notifications” section. In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Choose the ringtone you prefer and then tap Ok.

Note: if you prefer, you can disable custom notification sound and ringtone by unchecking “Use custom notifications.”

Individual Group

Launch WhatsApp app. Open the group you want. Tap on its name at the top. You can see “Custom notifications.” Tap on it.

Tap “Use custom notifications.” Tap “Notification tone.” In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Select the notification tone you prefer and then tap Ok.

Note: to disable custom notification sound of the group, uncheck “Use custom notifications.”

All Contacts and Groups

​Tap three vertical dots at the top of WhatsApp. Hit Settings > Notifications.

Now, tap the “Notification tone” in the “Messages” section to set a notification tone for all contacts. In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Select the notification tone and then hit Ok.

Tap “Notification tone” in the “Groups” section to set a notification tone for all groups. In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Select the notification tone you wish and then hit Ok.

Tap “Ringtone” in the “Calls” section to set a ringtone for all contacts. In case, if you see a pop-up, choose “Media storage” in it. Choose the ringtone and then tap Ok.

Note: to revert, follow the above steps and select the “Default notification sound” for contact and group notification sound (For ringtone – select “Default ringtone”).
