You’ll learn how to turn off Instagram’s similar account suggestions and suggested posts in this post.
Let’s start with the former and then the latter.
How to Turn Off Similar Account Suggestions on Instagram
Similar accounts are suggested when you follow someone from their Instagram profile.
As an alternative, you can hit the down arrow button (next to the Message button) on someone’s profile page.
Under the “Suggested for You” (if you’re on Android or iPhone) or “Suggested” (if you’re on PC) section, you can now see a few accounts that are suggested for you to follow.
By hitting “See All” besides Suggested for You, you’ll be taken to the Suggested tab, where you can see all the profiles that are like the one you’re in, which are suggested for you to follow.
In PC, if you hit See All beside Suggested, you’ll see a pop-up where you can see all the profiles that are like the one you’re in, which are suggested for you to follow.
You can turn off these similar account suggestions in your profile if you wish, and you will learn how in this section.
Remember that you will also not appear in any other accounts suggestions if you turn it off.
I use a PC browser here. You can do the same thing in the iPhone or Android browser. The steps are almost identical.
Note: You cannot do this using the Instagram app (iPhone or Android).
Here are the steps:
Sign in to your Instagram account.
Click on the profile picture at the top right.
Then click on Profile.
Click on the Edit Profile button at the top.
Scroll to the bottom of the page. Now you can see the “Include your account when recommending similar accounts people might want to follow.”
Uncheck it, then click the Submit button.
That’s all there is to it.
How to Turn Off Suggested Posts on Instagram
When the recent posts from the accounts you follow from the past three days are over in your Feed, you’ll see this message: You’re All Caught Up.
Note: The View Older Posts (which is beneath the above message) will show you the older posts of the accounts you follow. In the top right corner, you can find Older Posts if you scroll through the suggested posts. Hitting this will take you to the same place as hitting View Older Posts.
You’ll then see the “Suggested Posts” section. You can see this section because of the “Suggested Posts” feature.
You see posts in this section from accounts you don’t follow, but the posts from those accounts are shown to you because they are like posts from accounts you follow or because the posts are like those you liked or saved.
Instagram does not offer the option to permanently turn off the suggested posts.
If you see a post in the “Suggested Posts” you aren’t interested in, you can notify Instagram, which will then show you fewer posts like that.
Here’s how you can do that with the Instagram app (Android and iPhone):
Find the post in the Suggested Posts section.
Hit the three horizontal dots in the top right of the post.
Hit Not Interested, which you can find between Report and Copy Link.
That’s all. You can use the Undo if you want to undo it.
Note: Instagram’s web version does not show suggested posts.
