How to Disable Startup Programs in Windows 10

Programs that automatically start when the computer boots up are known as "Startup Programs."

Too much startup programs can affect your PC's boot time. So, it is good to take a look at your startup programs and disable the ones that you find as unnecessary.

In this post, we will see how to disable startup programs in Windows 10 PC. Let's get started.

Disable Startup Programs in Windows 10

You can do this task with or without software. Here, we will see both, and you can pick the one you want.

Inbuilt Option

    Open Task Manager (one of the way to do it by right-clicking on the "Start" button and then clicking on "Task Manager").

    Click on "Start-up" tab. (In case, if you cannot see any tab in the Task Manager, then click on "More Details" in the Task Manager and you can see the tabs).

    You can see all the startup programs of your PC now. Go through it. Make sure to check "Start-up impact" column where you can see the impact of the every startup program on boot time.

    Now, right-click on the program that you want to disable. Click on "Disable" option.

    The program is disabled, and you can see its status (see "Status" column) changed from "Enabled" to "Disabled."

Note: Repeat the above two steps to disable all the programs that you want to disable.

That is all. The program(s) you have disabled will not start anymore when PC boots.

If you want to enable startup programs later, then follow the below steps:

    Go to "Start-up" tab in Task Manager.
  • angle-double-right
    Right-click on the program you want to enable.
  • angle-double-right
    Select "Enable" option.

Note: Repeat the above two steps to enable all the programs that you want to enable.

Third-Party Tool

    Install CCleaner. It comes in three versions - Free, Professional, and Professional Plus. Pick the one you prefer.

    After you installed and opened CCleaner on your PC, click on Tools > Startup.

    Now, you can see all your startup programs.
  • angle-right
    Right-click on the one that you want to disable and then click on "Disable" option.

    The program is disabled, and you can see its status (see "Enabled" column) changed from "Yes" to "No."

Here is an important thing about this software - You can select all or multiple startup programs and then disable them at once. Here are the steps:

Select all (Ctrl + A) or the ones you prefer (Ctrl and click the ones you prefer) and then right click on them. Click on "Disable" option. That is all.

Note: Unfortunately, CCleaner does not show the impact of startup programs on boot time.

To enable program(s), follow the below steps:

    Select the program(s) that you want to enable.

    Right click on them and then click on "Enable."
