How to Star Messages on WhatsApp (Android and iPhone)

WhatsApp’s “Starred messages” feature lets you bookmark WhatsApp messages. Bookmarking messages allow you to easily and quickly get back to them later.

Let’s see the steps to star messages on WhatsApp on Android phone and iOS.

How to Star WhatsApp Messages

Android

Open WhatsApp chat.

Select the message(s) that you want to star.

Now, tap the “Star” icon at the top.

Here are some other important things to note:

  • You can “Star” anything you send and receive in both the individual contact and group chat.
  • Remember that removing the star from a message doesn’t delete that message.
  • Within the starred message, you can see the “Star” icon. If you see the “Star” icon in the message, it means it’s a starred message.

View Starred Messages

You can see all the starred messages of a single contact or group by opening that contact or group, tapping their name at the top, and then tapping the “Starred messages” option.

You can see all the starred messages on your WhatsApp account in a single place, and here’s how: Go to the “Chats” tab. Tap the three vertical dots at the top. Hit “Starred messages.”

Remember that clicking the starred message will take you to that message in the corresponding chat.

How to Unstar Starred Messages

Unstar Messages from a Single Contact or Group

Open the chat that contains the starred message you want to unstar.

Tap the contact or group name at the top.

Tap “Starred messages.” Now, you can see all the starred messages of that contact or group.

Select the message(s) you want to unstar and then tap the “Star” icon.

Unstar All Starred Messages from a Single Contact or Group at Once

If you want to remove all the starred messages from a particular contact or group, then follow the above steps to reach “Starred messages.”

Tap the three vertical dots at the top and then tap “Unstar all.”

In the confirmation pop-up, hit the “Unstar” option.

Unstar Starred Messages from all Contacts and Groups

In the “Chats” tab, tap the three vertical dots at the top.

Tap “Starred messages.” You can see the starred messages from all contacts and groups.

Select the message(s) that you want to unstar.

Tap the “Star” icon at the top.

Unstar all Starred Messages at Once

In the “Chats” tab, tap the three vertical dots at the top.

Hit “Starred messages.”

Tap the three vertical dots at the top.

Hit “Unstar all.”

In the confirmation pop-up, tap the “Unstar” option.

iPhone

Open a WhatsApp chat that has the message you want to star. 

Long press the message. 

Hit the “Star,” which you can find above “Reply” option. 

That’s all. 

View Starred Messages 

Hit the chat in the “Chats” tab. 

Tap the name at the top. 

Hit “Starred Messages” which you can find above “Chat Search.” 

You can now see the starred messages on that chat. 

To see all the starred messages on your WhatsApp account, tap the “Settings” tab at the bottom. Hit “Starred Messages.” 

Remember that hitting the arrow beside the starred message will take you to that message in the corresponding chat.

How to Unstar Starred Messages 

Remember that unstar and deletion are different. 

For Single Chat 

To remove starred messages from a single chat, follow these steps: 

Follow the steps in the above section to see all the starred messages of a single chat. 

Hit “Edit” at the top right. 

Select the one(s) you like to remove. 

Tap the “Star” icon at the bottom. 

Hit “Done” at the top right. 

For All Chats 

To remove starred messages from all chats, follow these steps: 

Follow the steps in the above section to see all the starred messages on your WhatsApp account. 

Hit “Edit” at the top. 

Select the one(s) you would like to unstar. 

Hit “Star” icon at the bottom. 

Tap “Done” at the top.
