How to Star a WhatsApp Message (Android, iPhone, and WhatsApp Web)

You can star messages in WhatsApp, which makes finding them easy and quick.

You can only view your starred messages and no one else. Note that not only text, but you can also star media.

I’m using Android, WhatsApp Web, and iPhone in this case. Let’s get started.

How to Star WhatsApp Messages

Follow these steps to star a message on Android and iPhone:

Open WhatsApp conversation (group or contact).

Hold the message for a few seconds. It can be yours or someone else’s. Remember that you can select many messages if you’re on Android.

Choose “Star” from options if you’re using an iPhone.

On Android, you can see the Star icon on top. Tap it.

That’s it.

Follow these steps to complete the same task on WhatsApp Web:

While on chat, hover over the message you want. Click the down arrow in the message. Select Star message.

Remember that you can star multiple messages at once. Here’s how:

Open chat. Click three vertical dots at the top right, then Select messages.

Now select messages. Click the “Star” icon at the bottom.

How to View All Starred Messages

Launch WhatsApp app.

On Android, tap three vertical dots on the top right, select Starred messages between Linked devices and Payments.

On the iPhone, tap the Settings tab at the bottom. Select Starred Messages.

The above steps will show all the starred messages from all chats.

Follow these steps to see starred messages of specific chat only:

Open chat. Tap name on top. Select Starred Messages. That’s it. You can now only see starred messages of this conversation.

Follow these steps to complete these tasks on WhatsApp Web:

Once you’re on WhatsApp Web, click three vertical dots on the left sidebar.

Select Starred between Archived and Settings.

Here are steps to find starred messages of the individual chat:

Open chat. Click name at its top.

On the right sidebar, you can find Starred Messages between Mute notifications and Disappearing Messages.

Select it, and you’ll see all the starred messages of that chat.

Remember that tapping or clicking the starred message will take you to that message.

How to Unstar Messages

Remember that removing the star from a message will not delete it.

You can unstar a single message, multiple messages, or all the starred messages at once.

Follow these steps to unstar single or multiple messages on Android or iPhone:

Open WhatsApp chat.

Tap and hold a message from which you wish to remove the star. Remember that on Android, you can select many messages.

Select the “Unstar” icon at the top if you’re on Android. If you’re using an iPhone, tap the Unstar option.

Instead, follow these steps to complete the same task:

Go to the “Starred messages” (Steps are in the above section).

If you’re on Android, follow these steps:

Select the message(s) you would like to unstar. Tap the Unstar icon on top. That’s it.

If you’re on iPhone, follow these steps:

Tap Edit on the top right. Select the message(s) you would like to unstar.

Tap the Star icon at the bottom.

That’s all. Return to the Starred Messages section by tapping Done on the top right.

You can also follow the steps above for starred messages from a particular chat.

Follow these steps to unstar single or many starred messages on WhatsApp Web:

Open chat. Hover over the message. Click the down arrow in the message, then the Unstar message option.

That’s all.

To unstar multiple messages, do these:

Open chat. Click the three vertical dots on the top right.

Click “Select messages.” Select messages. Now click the Unstar icon at the bottom.

That’s it.

Instead, follow these steps to complete the same task. Note that this one is for an individual starred message.

Go to the “Starred” (Steps are in the above section).

From there, hover over the message. Click the down arrow in the message. Select the Unstar message option.

You can also follow the steps above for starred messages from a particular chat.

Here’s how you can unstar all the starred WhatsApp messages at once. Note that this only works on WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp Web.

Go to the “Starred” or “Starred Messages” depending on your device (Steps are in the above section).

Click three vertical dots on top, then Unstar all. Select Unstar in the pop-up.

That’s all there is to it.
