Make Windows 10 File Explorer to Show Icons Instead of Thumbnails

By default, your Windows 10 File Explorer (and Desktop) will show thumbnails for files and folders.

If you do not want to see thumbnails and instead OK (or want) to see icons, then this guide is for you.

In this post, we will see two different ways to do this task. Let's see what they are.

Make Windows 10 File Explorer to Show Icons Instead of Thumbnails

    Open the File Explorer Options.

    Now, go to the "View" tab.
  • angle-right
    Find and check the option "Always show icons, never thumbnails."
  • angle-right
    Click on "OK" button.

That is all. From now on, you can see icons only on File Explorer and Desktop.

If you want to revert, follow the below steps:

    Go to "View" tab of File Explorer Options.

    Find and uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails."
  • angle-double-right
    Hit "OK" button.
  • angle-right
    Launch Control Panel. Click System > Advanced system settings.

    In the "System Properties" popup, click on "Advanced" tab.

    Click on "Settings" button under "Performance" section.
  • angle-right
    In the "Performance Options" popup, find and unselect "Show thumbnails instead of icons."
  • angle-right
    Hit the "OK" button in the popup.

You can revert at any time you want by going to "Performance Options" popup, selecting "Show thumbnails instead of icons" option and then hit "OK" button.
