How to Restore Previous Folder Windows at Log On in Windows 10

Let’s say: You have two folders opened (for instance: Documents and Downloads) on your PC, and you are about to Shut down (or Restart or Sign out) with both the folders opened.

By default, on the next log on, you’ll only see Desktop.

However, if you want the opened folders (in our instance, it is Documents and Downloads) to be automatically opened the next time you log on to your PC, then follow these steps:

  1. Open File Explorer Options (Check out my post if you need any help with this).

  2. Go to the “View” tab and then find and select “Restore previous folder windows at logon” which is between “Launch folder windows in a separate process” and “Show drive letters.”
Selected Restore previous folder windows at logon option

  3. Hit the “Ok.”

That’s all. From now on, when you log on to your PC, you’ll see restored previous folder windows.

If you like to go back to default, then follow the above steps and instead of checking, uncheck “Restore previous folder windows at logon” option.
