How to Restore Previous Folder Windows at Logon in Windows 10

Let's say: You have two folders opened (for instance: Documents and Downloads) on your PC, and you are about to Shut down (or Restart or Sign out) with both the folders opened.

By default, on the next log on, you will only see Desktop.

However, if you want the opened folders (in our instance, it is Documents and Downloads) to be automatically opened the next time you log on to your PC, then follow these steps:

  • angle-right
Open File Explorer Options (Check out this post if you need any help).
  • angle-right
Go to "View" tab and then find and select "Restore previous folder windows at log-on" which is between "Launch folder windows in a separate process" and "Show drive letters."
  • angle-right
    Hit "OK."
Selected Restore previous folder windows at log-on option

That is all. From now on, when you log on to your PC, you will see restored previous folder windows.

Note: When I try this option, I see that the folders are correctly restored, and not their positions are.

If you like to go back to default, then unselect "Restore previous folder windows at log-on" and then click "OK."
