(2021) How to Hide Facebook Profile from Searches by Name, Email, and Phone Number

People (except the one you blocked) can search for you and find your profile on Facebook using your email address or phone number by default.

You can control who can find you on Facebook using your email address and phone number with the steps below.

By default, search engines such as Google display the link to your Facebook profile and its publicly available information and things.

If you do not want search engines to display a link to your profile, follow the steps below.

Remember, however, that search engines can still show your profile publicly available information and things.

The devices I use here are Android, PC, and iPhone. Let’s begin.

How to Hide Your Facebook Profile from Searches by Name, Email Address, and Phone Number

PC

Log in to your Facebook account.

Hit the inverted triangle icon in the top right.

Click on Settings & Privacy > Settings.

Hit Privacy on the left sidebar.

You can find “Who can look you up using the email address you provided?” under the “How People Find and Contact You” section.

Open the drop-down list, and you can see these options: Everyone (the default one), Friends of friends, Friends, and Only me.

Select the one except the former.

Now, hit the “Who can look you up using the phone number you provided?.”

Select the one you prefer except Everyone.

You can find “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile?.”

When you click on it, you will see a checkbox. Uncheck it.

In the pop-up, click Turn Off.

That’s it. The search engines will reflect the change in a few weeks.

Note: To revert, you must check the checkbox and select Everyone from both the drop-down lists.

Android or iPhone

Open the Facebook app.

Hit the Menu (three horizontal lines) at the top if you’re using Android or the bottom if you’re using iPhone.

Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.

In the Audience and Visibility section, hit “How People Find and Contact You.”

Hit Who can look you up using the email address you provided?.

Now you can see these options: Everyone (the default one), Friends of friends, Friends, and Only me.

Choose the one you prefer (except the former).

Now hit the “Who can look you up using the phone number you provided?.”

Choose the one you prefer from the options (except Everyone).

You can find “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile?.”

Hit it and then turn the toggle switch off.

Now you can see this message: Are you sure you want to disable public search? Turning this off means that your friends may not be able to find your profile if they use a search engine outside of Facebook. Select Disable from the pop-up.

That’s all. The search engines will reflect the change in a few weeks.

Note: To allow search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile, you must turn the toggle switch on. And select Everyone for remaining both.

Notes:

Here are a few things to note:

  • You may still appear in search results if your email address contains your full name.
  • In the Messenger app, people can search using the phone number, which is not affected by the above steps.
  • Even after following all the steps in this guide, people can still find you on Facebook using your name.
