How to Remove Chrome Extensions and Apps

In this post, you will see:

  • How to disable or remove Edge, Firefox, and Chrome extensions
  1. How to remove the Edge and Chrome app
  • How to enable or disable extensions for private browsing mode

In this case, I am using a Windows 10 PC. Let’s get started.

How to disable or remove Chrome extensions

Open the Google Chrome browser.

Hit the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.

Click More tools > Extensions that you can find between “Clear browsing data” and “Task manager” or

Type chrome://extensions in the Chrome address bar and then press the “Enter” key or

Click the Extensions icon at the top right and then “Manage extensions.”

On the Extensions screen, you can now see the extensions.

To disable:

Disable the toggle switch on the extension you want to disable.

That’s it.

Note: To enable it, activate the toggle switch on the extension you want to activate.

To delete:

Click the Remove button on the extension you want to remove.

In the pop-up window, select Remove.

That’s all.

How to remove Chrome apps

In the Chrome address bar, type chrome://apps and then hit the “Enter” key.

Now you can see the Chrome apps.

Right-click on the one you want to remove and you’ll see the “Remove from Chrome” option. Press it.

Click “Remove” in the pop-up.

How to disable or remove Microsoft Edge extensions

Open Edge.

Press the three horizontal dots at the top right. Select Extensions. Or

In the address bar, type edge://extensions and then press Enter.

On the Extensions screen, you can now see the Edge extensions.

To disable an extension, deactivate the toggle switch. To activate an extension, activate the toggle switch.

To uninstall an extension, press Remove in the extension. Click Remove in the popup.

How to remove Edge apps

In the Edge address bar, type edge://apps and then press Enter or

Press the three horizontal dots at the top right, move your mouse over the Apps, and then press Manage apps.

Now you can see the Edge apps on the Apps screen.

Press X on the app you want to remove.

Select the checkbox if you want to clear data. In the pop-up, select Remove.

How to disable the Firefox extension

Open the Firefox browser.

In the address bar, type about:addons or press the three vertical lines at the top right and then Add-ons or press Ctrl + Shift + A.

Press Extensions on the left sidebar.

To disable an extension, simply disable its switch. To activate an extension, activate its switch.

To uninstall an extension, simply press the three horizontal dots and then the Remove option. Hit the Remove button on the popup.

How to enable or disable extensions for private browsing mode

Extensions are disabled by default for private browsing mode, as is the case for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

But if you want, you can enable extensions for private mode.

Let’s take a look at the steps. In this case, I’m using a Windows 10 PC.

Note:

Private browsing mode is referred to by browsers with a different name.

For Firefox, it is a private mode, for Chrome it is an incognito mode and for Edge, it is an InPrivate mode.

Google Chrome

Open the Chrome browser.

Hit the three vertical points in the upper right corner.

Move the mouse over More tools.

Hit Extensions which you can find between “Clear browsing data” and “Task manager.”

Note: You can go directly to the Extensions screen by pasting this (chrome://extensions) into the address bar and pressing the Enter key.

On the Extensions screen, you will see extensions.

Press the Details button in the Chrome extension that you want to enable for Incognito mode.

Now you will see “Allow in incognito.” Activate it.

That’s all.

Follow the steps above for any extensions you want to activate.

If you want to disable extensions for incognito mode, follow the steps above, but disable instead of enabling.

Mozilla Firefox

Open the Firefox browser.

Press Ctrl + Shift + A or press three vertical lines at the top right and then Add-ons or type about:addons in the address bar and then press Enter.

Press Extensions on the left sidebar.

You can now see extensions.

In the Firefox extension that you want to enable, press the three horizontal dots button.

Click on the Manage option.

You can see Run in Private Windows. Besides that, you will see Allow and Don’t Allow.

Select Allow if you want to enable the extension for private mode.

Choose Don’t Allow if you want to disable the extension for private mode.

Execute the above steps for all desired extensions.

Microsoft Edge

Open Edge browser.

In the address bar, type edge://extensions and then press the Enter key or

Hit the three horizontal dots in the top right and then hit Extensions.

You can now find the extensions.

Click on the Details on the extension you want to activate.

You will see the option “Allow in InPrivate.” Enable it.

That’s all.

Execute the above steps for all desired extensions.

If you want to disable extensions for InPrivate browsing mode, follow the steps above, but disable instead of enabling.
