How to Remove Cast to Device Option

If you right click on the audio, video, image file or a folder containing those, you can see the Cast to Device option in the context menu.

You can remove it if you do not want it.

In this post, you will see the steps to do this task. Here, I’m using Windows 10 build 21343. Let’s get started.

Remove Cast to Device Option

Open Registry Editor. I suggest you take a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Go to the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Shell Extensions.

Hit the Blocked key. If you do not see the Blocked key, you need to create it and here’s how: Right-click on the Shell Extensions and then select New > Key. Provide the name as Blocked and then press the Enter key.

Right-click on a space in the right pane.

Select New > String Value.

Provide the name as {7AD84985-87B4-4a16-BE58-8B72A5B390F7} and then press the Enter key.

Restart File Explorer or PC.

That’s all. From now on, you cannot see the Cast to Device option.

If you want to add this option to the context menu, then all you need to do is remove the String Value you have created above and restart the PC or File Explorer.
