How to Quote a WhatsApp Message

WhatsApp’s Reply feature lets us quote WhatsApp message and reply to that quoted message.

It is useful especially when you are receiving many messages continuously in a conversation (like the one below), and you want to reply a specific message.

It is a simple process and here’s how you can do it.

    Open the WhatsApp chat (individual or group) and then long press the message that you want to quote.

    Click on the "Reply" icon (beside Star icon).

    Now, you can see the preview of the quoted message with the name of the sender at the top along with the cursor placed at the Compose Box.

    Just type your reply and hit "Send" icon.

Quote Message on WhatsApp Web

Here's how you can do the same on WhatsApp Web:

    Open the chat and hover the Mouse on the message that you want to quote.

    Click on Expand (Down arrow) icon and choose "Reply."

    Now, you can see the preview of the quoted message with sender name at the top and the cursor is placed on the Compose Box.

    Type your reply and click on "Send" icon.

Here are some important things to note:

  • Not only text, but you can also quote any media type.
  • You cannot quote more than a message at a time.
  • Once you send the quoted message, tap on it, and you will see it's original message in the conversation.

    If you want to cancel the preview of the quoted message, just click "X" at the preview.

    You can quote not only sender message, but you can quote your message too.
