How to Quote a WhatsApp Message

For years, WhatsApp has been the most popular chatting app. It has many useful features, and one of them is “Reply.”

This feature lets you quote WhatsApp messages. Let’s see the steps.

Open WhatsApp chat (contact or group).

Press and hold the text you wish to quote. It can be yours or someone else’s. Remember not only text, but you can quote media too.

On iPhone, this will open the menu, and from there, choose “Reply.”

If you’re using Android, you’ll see a menu at the top, and from there, select “Reply” next to the Star icon.

Type in your response, then send it.

That’s it.

Here’s an alternate method: You can also quote a message by sliding it to the right. The rest are the same as the above.

Note that when you tap quoted message, it’ll take you to the message you’ve quoted.

Here are steps to follow to quote message on WhatsApp Web:

Hover over the message you’d like to quote. Click the down arrow in the message.

You can now see Reply. Click it. Please type your response and send it.

That’s all.

Here are three vital questions and their answers:

Can I cancel the quoted message before sending it? Yes. Tap X in quoted message preview, and that’s it.

Can you quote part of the message? No.

Can you like WhatsApp messages? No. At the time of this writing, WhatsApp doesn’t have that functionality.

How to Tag People on WhatsApp

On WhatsApp, you can only tag people in group chats and not in contact chats.

Using Android and iPhone, you can tag participants in the group conversation as follows:

Go to the group chat you want on WhatsApp. At the bottom, tap the compose box.

Type @, and you can see the list of group participants. Tap the name of the person you wish to tag.

Keep in mind that you can tag more participants by using the above step.

After that, you can add a message like any other WhatsApp conversation. Send it.

That’s it.

Note: Steps above apply to WhatsApp Web.

Tagged users will receive a notification and see that you’ve tagged them.

Even if they have muted group, they will receive this notification. This one does not apply if you’ve been muted.

In this message, anyone who taps their name (for example – S) will be taken to the Contact Info screen of S. On WhatsApp Web, they’ll be taken to the chat screen of S.
