How to Change What to Happen When You Press Sleep Button on Laptop

If your laptop has Sleep button, then this guide is for you.

When you press "Sleep" button on your ​laptop running Windows, it will go to "Sleep" mode.

If you wish, you can change what to happen when you press Sleep button​. Let's see how to do it on Windows 10 laptop.

Change What to Happen When You Press Sleep Button

    Open Run Command. Type "powercfg.cpl" (without double quotes) and then press "Enter."

    Click on the link "Choose what the power buttons do."

    Now, you can see the "When I press the sleep button" along with its two drop-down lists.

    Open the drop-down list under "On battery" column. Now, you can see the options: Do nothing (choosing this option will disable Sleep button), Sleep, Hibernate and Turn off the display. Choose the option you want.

    Choose the drop-down list under "Plugged in" column and then choose the option you prefer.

    In this instance, I chose "Turn off the display" on both the drop-down lists.

    Click on "Save changes" button at the bottom.

That is all. From now on, when you press the Sleep button, the action you have chosen will be initiated. As per our instance, it will turn off the display.

If you want to have the default settings, then choose the "Sleep" option ​on both drop-down lists and then click on "Save changes" button.
