How to Enable or Disable Pop-up Description in Windows 10

When you hover your mouse over an item in Windows 10 File Explorer or Desktop, you can see pop-up description.

Pop-up description

If you don’t like pop-up description, then you can disable it.

Steps

  1. Open Run Command Box. Type “control folders” (without double quotes) and then hit “Enter” key.

  2. In the “File Explorer Options,” navigate to “View” tab.

  3. Find and unselect “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.”
Unselected Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items option

  4. Hit the “Ok.”

That’s all. No more pop-up description in Windows 10 File Explorer and Desktop.

Note: Keep in mind that the pop-up description will be shown in Start menu, Taskbar and Notification Area even if you’ve unselected “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” option.

In case, if you want to enable pop-up description in future, follow the above steps and instead of unchecking, check the “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” option.
