What is Preview Pane

Preview pane, a pane on the right side of the File Explorer, shows the content of the file you’ve selected. Keep in mind that this is not the case for some file types such as .exe.

By default, you can’t see it in File Explorer.

Remember that the steps to hide and show are the same. Also, keep in mind that if you show preview pane, then:

  • It’ll replace details pane if already enabled.
  • It’ll apply to every folder.

Let’s see the different methods to hide and show.

Method #1

Open File Explorer. Press Alt and P keys together.

Method #2

Launch File Explorer.

Navigate to the “View” tab in the Ribbon.

Hit “Preview pane” in the “Panes” section.

Follow the below steps to hide preview handlers:

Open File Explorer Options.

Navigate to the “View” tab.

Unselect “Show preview handlers in preview pane” option.

Hit the “Ok” button at the bottom.

Note: To show preview handlers, follow the above steps. And instead of unselecting, select.

What is Details Pane

Details pane is a pane on the right side of the File Explorer. It shows the information about the file or folder you’ve selected. The information may vary depending on the chosen item.

By default, you can’t see it in File Explorer.

  • It’ll replace the preview pane if already enabled.

Navigation pane, a pane on the left side of the File Explorer, is for navigation. You can see Quick access, OneDrive, This PC, and Network here.

You can see it by default in File Explorer.
