How to Open System Configuration (MSConfig) in Windows 11

In this post, you’ll see the different ways to launch System Configuration (also known as MSConfig) and the steps to create a shortcut for it.

Here, I’m using Windows 11. Let’s start.

How to Open System Configuration using Command

Here are the steps:

Open the Run by pressing Windows + R. Type msconfig and press Enter key.

That’s all.

You can also use this command with the following programs:

  • Task Manager (Click File > Run new task to use the command)
  • Command Prompt
  • Windows PowerShell
  • File Explorer address bar

How to Open MSConfig using Start Menu

Open the Start menu. The System Configuration app will appear in the search results when you type msconfig. Click on it.

You can also do the task with these steps:

Open the Start menu and click the All apps button. Find and hit Windows Tools. Double-click System Configuration.

How to Start System Configuration using File

Open C: > Windows > System32.

Find and double-click the msconfig file.

How to Open System Configuration using Cortana

Hit the Cortana button on the taskbar.

Type open msconfig and then press the Enter key.

That’s all.

How to Create System Configuration Shortcut

Here you’ll find steps on creating a shortcut to the System Configuration on your Windows 11 desktop or File Explorer.

Right-click on your desktop or File Explorer blank area. 

Hover the mouse over “New.” Click “Shortcut.” 

On the “Create Shortcut” pop-up, type msconfig. Click “Next.”
