How to Mute in Chrome and Firefox Web Browsers?

Here’s how you can mute a site in Google Chrome and a tab in Firefox:

To Mute a Site in Chrome

  1. In Chrome, right-click on the tab which has the website you wish to mute.
  2. In the context menu, click Mute site option which you can find between Pin and Send to your devices.

That’s all. Remember that the site will remain muted until you unmute it.

To Unmute a Site

Right-click on the tab which has the website you’ve muted and then hit the Unmute site option.

To Mute All Sites in Chrome

If you want to mute all sites, then follow the below steps:

  1. In the address bar, type chrome://settings/content/sound and then press Enter key.
  2. Hit the Allow sites to play sound (recommended).

That’s it. All the websites you’ve already opened (and will open) is muted.

To Unmute All Sites

Go to the URL mentioned above and then hit Mute sites that play sound.

To Mute a Tab in Firefox

Use any of the following three ways:

  • Press Ctrl and M keys simultaneously to mute a tab.
  • Hit the Volume icon in the tab you want to mute.
  • Right-click on the tab you want to mute. In the context menu, hit the Mute Tab option which you can find between Reload Tab and Pin Tab.
