How to Hide Desktop Icons in Windows 10

If you want to hide desktop icons in Windows 10, then this guide is for you. It is a simple task and here are the steps:

Hide Desktop Icons in Windows 10

Steps

  • angle-right
Right-click on an empty area of Desktop.
  • angle-right
Hover your mouse over the "View" option.
  • angle-right
Now, you can see these options:

Large icons

Medium icons

Small icons

Auto arrange icons

Align icons to grid

Show desktop icons

  • angle-right
As you can notice "Show desktop icons" is checked and that is the reason the desktop icons are showing on Desktop.
  • angle-right
    Uncheck "Show desktop icons" option.
Canceled the selection of Show desktop icons

That is all. All desktop icons are hidden now.

Note:

Keep in mind that the above steps only hide all desktop icons and not delete them.

You can show all desktop icons at anytime you want. To show desktop icons again, select "Show desktop icons" option.

Hide Individual Desktop Icons

If you want to hide individual desktop icons, then here are the steps:

  • angle-double-right
Right-click on the desktop icon that you want to hide.
  • angle-double-right
Select "Properties" and then "General" tab.
  • angle-double-right
Now, find and select "Hidden" option.
Selected Hidden attribute
  • angle-double-right
    Tap "OK."
  • angle-double-right
    In the popup, click "Continue."

That's it. The icon should be hidden now.

If you want to get it back on the Desktop in future, follow these steps:

  • angle-double-right
First, change the setting to show hidden files.
  • angle-double-right
Now, you can see the icon you hide on Desktop. Right-click on it.
  • angle-double-right
Select "Properties" and then "General" tab.
  • angle-double-right
    Find and unselect "Hidden."
  • angle-double-right
    Hit "OK" button.
  • angle-double-right
    In the popup, click "Continue."

Note: Remember that the above steps cannot work for the inbuilt Desktop Icons (Recycle Bin, Control Panel, Computer, User's Files, and Network).

You can only remove them, and I have discussed that in this article. Keep in mind that you can also add those icons at any time you want.

I hope this guide is useful to you. If it is, share this post with your friends.
