How to Delete a Page and File in Google Docs

Delete a Page in Google Docs

Sign into Google Docs and then open the document.

If you want to delete a blank page, follow this step - Place the cursor in the page you want to remove and then hit the "Backspace" key.

Note: If the blank page you wish to delete is the first page, then you need to place the cursor in that page and then hit the "Delete" key.

If you wish to remove a page along with its contents, follow this step - Select the contents of the page and then hit the "Delete" key.

Note: If the page you want to delete is the last page, then you need to select the contents of that page and then hit the "Backspace" key twice.

Open Google Docs app and then open the document.

Hit the "Pencil" icon at the bottom. Tap the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top and then tap the "Print layout" option.

If you want to delete a blank page, follow this step - Place the cursor in the page you want to remove, hit the "Backspace" in your keyboard.

Note: If you want to delete a blank page and it is the first page, then place the cursor at the top of the second page and then hit the "Backspace" on the keyboard.

If you want to delete a page along with its contents, follow this step - Select the contents of the page and then hit the "Backspace" key twice.

Note: If the page you want to delete is the first page, then select the contents of the page and then hit the "Backspace" key.

Delete a File in Google Docs

  • ​Go to Google Docs. Sign in if not already.
  • ​Click on the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) in the file you want to delete.
  • ​Click on "Remove" option.

That's all. The file is deleted but not permanently. The deleted file is stored in the Trash of Google Drive.

If you want to restore that file or delete it permanently from Trash, then here are the steps:

  • ​Go to Google Drive. Sign in if not already.
  • ​Hit the "Trash" on the left side of the screen.
  • ​Now, you can find the file you want to restore or delete permanently.
  • ​Right-click on it and you can see two options - Restore and Delete forever.
  • ​Hit "Restore" if you want to restore. Hit "Delete forever," and you can see a confirmation popup. Hit "Delete Forever" in it, and the file will be deleted permanently.

Delete a File in Google Docs for Android

  • ​Open Google Docs app.
  • ​Tap on the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) in the file you want to delete.
  • ​Scroll through the options until you see "Remove." Tap on it.

That's it. The file is deleted but not permanently. Keep in mind that the deleted file is stored in the Google Drive Trash​.

If you want to restore that file or remove it permanently from the Trash, then here are the steps:

  • ​Tap on the Hamburger icon (three vertical lines) in the Google Docs app.
  • ​Hit "Trash." Now, you can see the deleted file. Hit on the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) in that file.
  • ​You can see two options now - Restore and Delete forever. Tap on "Restore," if you want to restore. Tap on "Delete forever," and you can see a confirmation popup. Tap on "Delete Forever" in it and the file will be deleted permanently.
