How to Open Gmail Email in a New Window
In Gmail, clicking on an email opens it in the same tab by default. To open the email in a new tab, press the “CTRL” key and press the email.
To open an email from the entire conversation in a new tab, follow the steps below:
Open the email. Click on the three vertical dots at the top of the email that you want to open in a new tab.
Now click on “Print.” Close the “Print” pop-up window by pressing the escape key. You can now see the email in a new tab.
Alternatively, you can complete the above task with these steps: Turn off the conversation view and then hit the email while pressing the “Ctrl” key.
To open an email in a new window, press the “Shift” button and press the email.
Here is an alternative to the above:
Open the email by clicking on it. Next to the “Print” icon you will see the “New window” icon. Click on it and the email will open in a new window.
To open an email from the entire conversation in a new window, you must first disable the conversation view in your Gmail account.
You can then open the email in a new window by using one of the two ways mentioned above.
How to Check Storage Usage of Gmail
If you want to check how much space in your Google account is used by Gmail, follow the steps below.
Click this link (sign in if you haven’t already), and you’ll find Gmail’s storage usage next to “Gmail.”
Open Google Drive for Android or Google Drive for iPhone.
Click on the three vertical lines at the top > Storage. If you are on an iPhone, click on “View details.”
Next to “Gmail” you can see the storage quota used by Gmail.
How to change the inbox type in Gmail
Note: Changes will be applied to your account. In other words, if you change the inbox type in Gmail for Android, it will be reflected in the Gmail web version and vice versa.
Log in to your Gmail account. Click on the “Gear” icon at the top. Scroll down until you see the “Inbox Type” section.
Now you can see six types of inbox:
Default – This is the default. Click the “Customize” option beneath “Default” to customize the latter.
Important first – this will divide the inbox into two sections.
One is “Important” which contains the emails that Gmail classifies as important with different signals, and the rest will be under “Everything else.”
Unread first – This will divide the inbox into two sections.
Above you will see “Unread” which contains all unread emails, and “Everything else” contains the rest.
Starred first – This will divide the inbox into two sections.
Above, you see “Starred” which contains all starred emails and “Everything else” contains the rest.
Priority Inbox – This will divide the inbox into three sections.
Above you will see “Important and unread” and as the name suggests, the important and unread emails. Next you can see “Starred” which contains all starred emails, and then “Everything else” which contains the rest of the emails.
Click the “Customize” option beneath the “Priority Inbox” to customize the latter.
Multiple Inboxes – Click the “Customize” option beneath the “Multiple Inboxes” to customize the latter.
Select one of the above.
Note: To return, follow the steps above, but select “Default.”
Android or iPhone
Open the Gmail app and click on the three vertical lines at the top > Settings.
Click on the desired Gmail account.
Now click on “Inbox type” and select the desired one.

How to Change Theme in Gmail
You can change the theme in the Gmail web version (PC), and here’s how:
Log in to your Gmail account. Click the “Gear” icon and click “View all” in the “Theme” section.
In the pop-up “Pick your theme” you will now see the themes. Select the theme you prefer by clicking on it.
Note: If you are not satisfied with the themes in the “Pick your theme” pop-up or would like to see more themes, follow the steps below:
In the pop-up window “Pick your theme” you will find the option “More Images.” Click on it, and you will be taken to the “Featured” section of the “Select your background image” pop-up, where you can see a lot of themes.
Select the one you want by clicking on it and then clicking on the “Select” button. Then follow the steps below.
You can now view the theme you’ve selected that has been applied to your account.
You can also see these three options at the bottom of the pop-up which allow you to customize the look of the theme:
- Text Background – This changes the text background. Click on this option, and you will be able to view two options: Light and Dark. Select the one you prefer.
- Vignette – This one makes the corners darker.
- Blur – This one blurs the background image.
Note: The above three options are optional and do not appear for all the themes.
If you are satisfied with the selected theme, click the “Save” button. That’s all.
How to set your image as a theme
Note: The image you want to set as a theme must be in one of the “Album” of “Google Photos.”
Open the “Pick your theme” pop-up window using the steps above. Click the “My photos” option in the pop-up.
In the “Select your background image” pop-up, beneath the “My photos” tab, you will see albums. Hit the one that has the photo you want to set as a theme.
Select the desired image and then click on the “Select” button.
Now you can see that the image has been applied to your account. You can also look at three options that you can use to customize it.
Click on the “Save” button.
Show or Hide Hangouts and Meet in Gmail
Here’s how you can show or hide Hangouts and Meet in the Gmail desktop version:
Log in to your Gmail account.
Click on the “Gear” icon in the top right corner.
Click the “See all settings” button.
Navigate to the Chat tab located between Add-ons and Advanced.
Show or Hide Hangouts
Next to “Chat” you will see “Hangout on” and “Hangouts off.” The former is for display and the latter for hiding.
Choose the one you prefer.
Click the “Save Changes” button.
Show or Hide Meet
Next to “Meet” you see “Show the Meet section in the main menu” and “Hide the Meet section in the main menu.” Self-explanatory, right?
Choose the one you prefer.
Click the “Save Changes” button.
How to hide or display Meet on Gmail for iPhone
Open the Gmail app.
Click on the three vertical lines > Settings > Email address you prefer.
Activate or deactivate the button next to “Meet.”
