How to Find All Read or Unread Emails in Gmail

In this post, we’ll see two different ways to find all the read or unread emails in Gmail.

In this instance, I’m using the Gmail web version. However, remember that the following steps can be applied to Gmail for Android too. Let’s get started.

Find All Read or Unread Emails in Gmail

Method #1

If you want to find all read emails, follow the below steps:

Sign in to your Gmail account.

In the “Search Box” at the top, type “is:read” (without double quotes) and then press “Enter” key.

Gmail search operator to find all read emails

Now, you can view all read emails of your Gmail account.

Keep in mind that if you’ve any read emails in the Spam or Trash, then you’ll see a notification stating it and a link which you can click to view those. It is not the case in Gmail for Android.

If you want to find all unread emails, follow the below steps:

Sign in to your Gmail account.

In the “Search Box” at the top, type “is:unread” (without double quotes) and then hit “Enter” key.

Gmail search operator to find all unread emails

Now, you can view all the unread emails of your account.

Remember that if you’ve any unread emails in the Spam or Trash, then you’ll see a notification stating it and “View messages” link which you can click to view those. It is not the case in the Gmail app.

Method #2

Change inbox type to “Unread first.” Steps are in this article.

If you want to see all read emails, you can see those in the “Everything else” section. Hit the number beside “Everything else” to navigate between the read emails.

If you want to see all unread emails, you can see those in the “Unread” section. Hit the number beside “Unread” to navigate between unread emails.

Remember that this method will not show you the read or unread emails in Spam or Trash. Not even an option to view those like the above method.

Also, note that in Gmail app, after changing inbox type as said earlier, you can see all unread emails in “Unread” which you can find by tapping “Hamburger” icon (three vertical lines) at the top. Moreover, this method will not show you the unread emails in Spam or Trash or the option to view those.

Remember that this method doesn’t show all read emails in the Gmail app.
