In this post, we’ll see the steps to forward, quote and star a message in WhatsApp. Let’s get started.
Forward WhatsApp Message(s)
WhatsApp’s “Forward” feature lets you forward WhatsApp message(s) (you’ve received and sent) and here’s how you can do that:
Open the chat which contains the message(s) that you want to forward.
Long press the message(s) that you want to forward.
Tap “Forward” icon at the top.
In the “Forward to…” screen, select the contact(s) and/or group(s) you wish from “Frequently contacted,” “Recent chats” and “Other contacts” section. You can also set the messages you’ve selected as your Status (Tap “My status” option for that).
Now, tap the “Send” icon.
That’s all. The message(s) will be forwarded to the one(s) you’ve chosen.
Here are some other important things to note:
You can’t forward a message to someone who is not in your WhatsApp contacts.
Every message you forward (that is not yours) will contain “Forwarded” label at the top of the forwarded message which can be seen by the recipient and yourself.
You can forward a message to a maximum of five chats.
Quote WhatsApp Message
WhatsApp’s “Reply” feature lets you quote WhatsApp message and reply to that quoted message.
It is useful especially when you’re receiving many messages continuously in a conversation, and you want to reply to a specific message.
Let’s see how to do it.
Open the WhatsApp chat (individual or group) and then long press the message that you want to quote.
Tap on the “Reply” icon.
Now, you can see the preview of the quoted message which has the name of the sender at the top and the cursor is placed at the compose box.
Type your reply and hit “Send” icon.
Slide the message you want to quote to the right side, and then the rest is same as above steps (3 and 4).
Here are a few important things to note:
Not only text, but you can also quote any media type.
You can’t quote more than a message at a time.
Once you send the quoted message, tap on it, and you’ll see it’s original message in the conversation.
In case, if you don’t want to send the quoted message while seeing the preview, then click “X” at the preview.
You can quote not only others message, but you can quote your message too.
If you want to reply privately to a message in the group chat, then long press the message, tap the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top and then select the “Reply privately” option. Now, you’ll be in the chat screen of the contact who send that message where you can type your reply and then hit “Send” icon.
Star WhatsApp Message(s)
WhatsApp’s “Starred Messages” feature lets you bookmark WhatsApp messages. Bookmarking messages let you easily and quickly get back to the messages later.
Well, let’s see how to do it.
Open WhatsApp chat.
Long press the message(s) that you want to star.
Now, tap the “Star” icon at the top.
Here are some other important things to note:
You can “star” anything you send and receive in both the individual contact and group chat.
Remember that removing the star from a message does not delete that message.
Within the starred message, you can see “Star” icon. So, if you see the “Star” icon in the message, it means that it is a starred message.
View Starred Messages in WhatsApp
You can see all the starred message of a single contact or group by opening that contact or group, tapping their name at the top and then tap “Starred messages” option.
You can see all the starred messages of your WhatsApp account in a single place and here’s how: Go to “Chats” tab > tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) > Starred messages.
Remember that clicking the starred message in any of the above methods will take you to that message in the corresponding chat.
Unstar Starred Message(s) of a Single Contact or Group
Go the chat which contains the starred message that you want to unstar.
Tap the contact or group name at the top.
Tap “Starred messages.”
Now, you can see all the starred messages of that contact or group.
Select the message(s) you want to unstar and then tap “remove Star” icon.
Unstar All Starred Messages of a Single Contact or Group At Once
If you want to remove all the starred messages of a particular contact or group, then follow the above steps to reach “Starred messages,” tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top and select “Unstar all.”
In the confirmation popup, select “Unstar” option.
Unstar Starred Message(s) of all Contacts and Groups
In the “Chats” tab, tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top and then tap “Starred messages.” Here, you can see the starred messages from all contacts and groups.
Now, long press the message(s) that you want to unstar.
Tap “remove Star” icon at the top.
Unstar all Starred Messages at Once
In the “Chats” tab, tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) > Starred messages.
Tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top.
Hit “Unstar all.”
In the confirmation popup, tap “Unstar” option.
