How to Add Emergency Information on Android

Knowing the emergency information about you would be helpful for the first responders to assist you better in the emergency condition.

"Emergency information" feature, which got introduced in Nougat, allows you to add your emergency information to your Android device.

But, anyone can access your emergency information without unlocking your device (I have talked about this later in this article).

In this post, we will see all about this feature in detail. Without further ado, let's get started.

Add Emergency Information on Android

    Go to the Settings app.

    Find and tap "Users."
  • angle-double-right
    Tap "Emergency information."
  • angle-double-right
    Read the message in the popup and then tap "continue."

    By default, you will be landed on the "Info" tab. Now, you can fill out your information.

Here are the fields you can see there:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Blood type
  • Allergies
  • Medications
  • Organ donor
  • Medical notes

    Keep in mind that all the fields are optional. After you fill out the fields in the "Info" tab, tap "Contacts" tab.

    Here, you can see "+ Add contact." This option is an optional one too.

    Using this option, you can add an emergency contact whom you want to be contacted in the emergency case.

    Tap the "+ Add contact" option and then select the contact you want. You can add as many contacts as you wish.

Steps to Access Emergency Information

If you want to see how this information will be shown to others, follow the below steps:

    Swipe up your lock screen.
  • angle-right
    Tap "Emergency."

    Now, you can see the emergency dialer along with the "Emergency Information" button at the top.

    Tap it twice, and you can see your emergency information.

Note: The above steps are same for first responders (and others) to access your emergency information.

Also, note that anyone can make a call to the emergency contacts without unlocking your device.

When someone taps the "Pencil" icon at the top (see above screenshot), he or she will be asked to unlock the device.

Additional Hint

Here are some important things to note:

  • If you want to clear individual information (for instance: Address), then follow these steps - Tap "Address," Clear the field and then tap "OK."

Note: If you want to clear "Blood type," just select "Unknown."

  • To remove an individual emergency contact, tap "Cross" icon and then hit the "Remove" on the confirmation popup.

  • If you want to remove all emergency information and contacts at once, follow these steps:

    Tap Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top.

    Tap "Clear all."
  • angle-double-right
    Tap "Clear" on the confirmation popup.
