How to Download a File from Google Docs

Downloading a file from Google Docs is a simple task and here's how you can do that on PC and Android:

PC

    ​Go to Google Docs. Sign in if not already.

    ​Open the document which you want to download.
  • angle-right
    ​Hit "File" at the top. Now, hover your mouse over the "Download as" option, and you can see these file formats - Microsoft Word (.docx), OpenDocument Format (.odt), Rich Text Format (.rtf), PDF Document (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), Web Page (.html, zipped), and EPUB Publication (.epub).

    ​Choose the file format you prefer.

That's it. Now, you can see the downloaded file in your computer.

Android

    ​Open Google Docs app.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Hit the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) in the file you want to download.

    ​Now, you can see the "Download" option. Tap on it.

That's all. The file is downloaded to your Android device as a PDF file.

Follow the below steps, if you want to download the file in other formats other than PDF:

    ​Open the document and then hit the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top.
  • angle-right
    ​Hit "Share & export" option. Now, tap on the "Save As" option.
  • angle-right
    ​In the "Save As" popup, choose the format you want. In this instance, I've chosen "Plain Text (.txt)." Tap "OK."

That's it. Now, you can see the document opened in the format you prefer.

Hit the "Download" icon at the top.

That's all. The file is downloaded to your Android device.

Keep in mind that the same file (in our instance: text document) is also stored in the Google Drive. Go to Google Drive and remove that file if you wish.
