How to Disable Deleting Browsing and Download History on Microsoft Edge

In this post, you’ll see two ways to disable browsing and download history deletion on the Edge browser. Choose the one you prefer.

I’m using Windows 11 PC here. Let’s start.

How to Disable Deleting Browsing and Download History on Edge using Local Group Policy Editor

Launch local group policy editor.

Navigate to the Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge.

Then double-click “Enable deleting browser and download history” in the right pane.

Select Disabled.

Hit the OK button.

That’s all.

Note: To enable the deletion, follow the steps above but select Enabled or Not Configured.

How to Disable Deleting Browsing and Download History on Edge using Registry Editor

Open Registry Editor. I suggest a Registry backup before proceeding.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft > Edge.

If you don’t see the Edge key mentioned above, you need to create it, and here’s how: Right-click on the Microsoft key and select New > Key. Type Edge and then press Enter key.

Right-click on the blank space in the right pane.

Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Type AllowDeletingBrowserHistory and then hit the Enter key.

That’s it.

Note: To enable the deletion, replace 0 with 1 in the Value data field of the DWORD and then hit the OK button or delete the DWORD you created earlier.

Thanks for reading.
