You can access Devices and Printers in three different ways:

Method #1

Launch the Settings app.

Hit “Devices.” Click on the “Devices and printers” link in the “Related settings” section.

Method #2

Run Command for Devices and Printers is control printers.

You can also use this command to open Devices and Printers from Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, Task Manager (Click on File > Run new task to use the command), Address toolbar, and File Explorer address bar.

Method #3

Open the Control Panel.

Click on the “Devices and Printers” link. You can see this between the “Device Manager” and the “Ease of Access Center.”

Note: If you are in the “Category” view, hit “View devices and printers.”

What is Devices and Printers in Windows 10

Devices and Printers is a place where you can view and manage printers and other devices. Usually, you will see two sections there: “Devices” and “Printers.”

Right-click on the desired device. You will see the options in the context menu. Remember that options may vary depending on the device.

Here are some other things you can do with the Devices and Printers:

  • You can search using the search box at the top right.
  • You can change the view using the drop-down slider located under the search box.
  • At the top left, you will see two options: “Add a device” and “Add a printer” that you can use to add a device and printer, respectively.
  • Or you can complete the above task by right-clicking on the empty area in the “Devices and Printers.” Select the “Add devices and printers” option.
  • Do you want to create a shortcut for any device or printer? Then right-click on it and click on the “Create shortcut” option in the context menu. In the pop-up, hit the “Yes” button. You can see the shortcut on the desktop.

Method #1

Below are the steps to create a Devices and Printers shortcut in the desktop or File Explorer.

Right-click on the empty area of your desktop or File Explorer.

Move the mouse over “New.” Hit “Shortcut,” which is located under “Folder.”

In the “Create Shortcut” pop-up, type control printers. Hit the “Next” button.

Provide the name for the shortcut if you dislike the suggested name.

Click on the “Finish” button.

Open the Control Panel. If you are in the “Large icons” or “Small icons” view, proceed to the next step.

Otherwise, you need to change the view, and here’s how:

Click “Category” at the top and select anyone except “Category.”

You will see “Devices and Printers” between “Device Manager” and “Ease of Access Center.” Right-click on it and you will see five options:

  • Open – Open the Devices and Printers in the same window.
  • Open in new window – You can view Devices and Printers in a new window if you use this option.
  • Pin to Quick access – Pin Devices and Printers to Quick access. When I tested this option, it did not work for me.
  • Pin to Start – Pin Devices and Printers to the Start menu as tile.
  • Create shortcut – This option creates a desktop shortcut for Devices and Printers.

Here I create a desktop shortcut. Hit the “Create shortcut” option and you will see a pop-up. Hit “Yes” in the pop-up.

That’s all. You can see the shortcut on the desktop. Rename it if you want.

Open Registry Editor. Make a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Expand Hkey_Classes_Root > Directory > Background. Right-click on the “shell” and then select New > Key.

Provide Devices and Printers (or something you like) as the name of the key. Hit the “Enter” key.

Right-click on the key you’ve created above and then select New > Key.

Provide the key name as command and then hit the “Enter” key.

On the right pane, you will see “Default.” Double-click on it.

In the “Value data” field, provide control printers and then click the “OK” button.

That’s all. Right-click on the empty area of your desktop or File Explorer. You’ll see “Devices and Printers” on the right-click menu.

Note: Remove the first key you created if you do not want Devices and Printers in the context menu.

Open Registry Editor. Take a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Expand Hkey_Local_Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > MyComputer.

Right-click on the “NameSpace” and then select New > Key.

Provide the following as the name of the key – {A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A}. Hit the “Enter” key.

That’s all. You can see the Devices and Printers on This PC.

Note: Remove the key you created if you do not want Devices and Printers on This PC.
