How to Change What to Happen When You Close Your Laptop Lid

The laptop running Windows will go to "Sleep" mode when you close its lid.

Change What to Happen When You Close Your Laptop Lid

In this instance, I am using a laptop running Windows 10. Let's see the steps.

    ​Open Control Panel.

    Find and click "Power Options."

    In the left side of the screen, you can see "Choose what closing the lid does." Click on it.

    Now, you can see "When I close the lid" along with its two drop-down lists.​
Sleep option is shown in both the drop-down lists

    ​Open the drop-down list under "On battery" column. Now, you can see these options - Do nothing, Sleep (which is the default option), Hibernate and Shut down.

    Choose the option you prefer.

    Open the drop-down list under "Plugged in" column and then choose the option you prefer.

    In this instance, I have chosen "Shut down" in both drop-down lists.​

    Hit "Save changes" button at the bottom.

​That is all. As per our instance, from now on, the PC will get shut down when the laptop lid is shut.

​Note: make sure to save your work before closing the laptop lid if you have selected "Shut down" option.
