In this post, you will see:

  • How to enable and use the tab search feature in Chrome
  • How to enable or disable tab hover cards in Chrome
  • How to enable scrollable tab bar in Chrome

In this case, I am using a Windows 10 PC. Let’s get started.

Activate and use the tab search

Finding a tab becomes a time-consuming task if you have multiple tabs open.

The solution to this is the Tab Search feature which allows you to find a tab quickly.

Let’s see the steps to enable it and how to use it.

Open the Google Chrome browser.

In the address bar, type chrome://flags and then press Enter.

Type tab search in the search box above.

You can now see the Enable Tab Search flag.

Open the drop-down list and select Enabled.

Press the Relaunch button.

Once the chrome is restarted, you will see a down arrow on the tab bar right side.

Click on it or press the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + A.

You will see the open tabs of the Chrome browser in the pop-up.

Use the search box to search for the tab you want to switch to.

Click on the tab and you will switch to it.

Move the mouse over a tab, and you will see X, which is used to close the tab.

Note: To disable this feature, go to the above Chrome flag and then choose Default.

How to enable or disable tab hover cards

When you hover over the tab, you will see the page title and website URL in the popup. It is called the tab hover cards.

This feature is enabled by default in Chrome. Let’s see the steps to enable and disable this in Chrome.

Open Chrome.

Type chrome://flags in the address bar, and then press the “Enter” key.

Now, in the search box at the top, type tab hover.

You will find the “Tab Hover Cards” flag.

Apart from that, you will find a drop-down list.

Open it and select “Disabled.”

Click on “Relaunch.”

Notes:

If you want to enable Tab Hover Cards, follow the steps above and select “Default” instead of “Disabled.”

When you are looking for the tab hover as mentioned in the above steps, you can also see this flag: Tab Hover Card Images.

It shows a preview of the tab in the tab hover cards. By default, it is not enabled.

But if you want you can enable it. All you have to do is open the drop-down list next to this flag and select Enabled. Restart the browser.

You can disable this at any time by selecting Default from the drop-down list and restarting the browser.

How to enable scrollable tab bar

If you want a scrollable tab bar in Google Chrome, follow the steps below:

Open the Chrome browser.

In the address bar, type chrome://flags and then press Enter.

In the search box above, type scrollable.

Now you can see these two flags:

  • Scrollable TabStrip
  • Scrollable TabStrip Buttons – This allows buttons permanently visible in the tab bar that allows you to scroll through the tabs. Remember that this one requires Scrollable TabStrip to be enabled.

Now, open the drop-down list next to the first one. Select Enabled.

If you wish, perform the above step for Scrollable TabStrip Buttons.

Press the Relaunch button.

That’s it.

After restarting, you will see two arrows in the tab strip that will allow you to scroll through the tabs.

Alternatively, you can move the mouse over the tab strip and scroll through the tabs.

Note: To disable this, you must select Default from the drop-down list.
