How to Enable Dark Mode in Chrome

In this post you will see the steps to turn dark mode on and off in Google Chrome.

You will also see the steps to enable and disable dark mode on YouTube and Twitter.

Here, I use Windows 10 PC, iOS (iPhone), and Android. Let’s get started.

How to enable dark mode in Chrome

PC

To enable dark mode in the Google Chrome browser, you only need to use dark mode in Windows 10.

Note: Disable dark mode in Windows 10 to disable dark mode in Google Chrome.

Android device

To activate dark mode on the Chrome app, you just need to activate dark mode on Android.

Note: Disable dark mode on Android to disable dark mode on the Chrome app.

Alternatively, you can just enable dark mode for the Chrome app and here’s how:

Open the Google Chrome app.

Click on the three vertical dots > Settings > Theme.

Choose Dark.

Notes:

  • To disable dark mode, follow the steps above. However, click on “Light.”
  • The System default option applies the dark mode of the device to Chrome. It also applies dark mode when Battery Saver is on.

iPhone

Chrome is in dark mode when you switch your iPhone to dark mode.

If you set the iPhone to light mode, then Chrome will also be in light mode.

How to turn on Twitter dark mode

PC

Log in to Twitter.

Click “More” on the left side of the screen.

Press “Display.”

In the pop-up’s “Background” section, select “Lights out” or “Dim.”

Press the Done button.

Note: To disable dark mode, follow the steps above and select “Default.”

Android or iPhone

Method #1

Open the Twitter app.

Tap the three vertical lines at the top left.

Click on the “Bulb” icon below.

If you are using an iPhone, follow the steps in Method #2 iPhone section. If you are using Android, follow the steps below:

In the pop-up above you will find the following options:

  • Off (turn off dark mode)
  • On (turn on dark mode)
  • Automatic at sunset (activate the dark mode at sunset and deactivate the dark mode at sunrise).

Select the one you prefer. I choose “On.”

In the pop-up’s “Dark theme” section, you will find these two options: Dim and Lights out.

Both are dark themes, and the one you select will be used when the dark mode is on. Choose the one you prefer.

Method #2

Open the Twitter app.

Click on the three vertical lines > Settings and privacy > Display and sound.

Tap “Dark mode.”

For Android – Select “On” or “Automatic at sunset.” Select the dark theme.

For iPhone

Activate the switch next to “Dark mode.”

Or enable “Use device settings.” If you select this option, your iPhone’s dark mode state of your iPhone will be used for the Twitter app.

In the “Theme” section you will find dark mode themes.

Choose what you want.

How to disable dark mode

Android: Follow the steps above and then select “Off.”

iPhone: Follow the steps above. Disable the switch next to “Dark mode” and “Use device settings.”

How to activate dark mode on YouTube

PC

Here, I’m using the Chrome browser on Windows 10 PC. Let’s see the steps.

Log in to your YouTube account.

Click on your profile picture at the top right.

Note: You can activate dark mode without logging into your account. If you prefer, visit YouTube and click on the three vertical dots above. Then follow the steps below.

Hit “Appearance: Device theme.”

Now you can see the following:

  • Use device theme – to set the device’s dark mode state for YouTube.
  • Light theme – to disable.
  • Dark theme – to activate.

Pick the one you prefer, and that’s it.

Here is an important thing to consider: For each browser you have to activate the dark mode separately.

Android

Launch the YouTube app.

Click on your profile picture at the top right.

Tap “Settings.”

Press “General” over “Autoplay.”

Tap “Appearance.”

In the pop-up window you will find the following three options:

  • Use device theme – This option sets your Android device theme as a YouTube theme.
  • Light theme – Disable dark mode.
  • Dark theme – Activate dark mode.

Choose the one you prefer.

iPhone

Open the YouTube app.

Click on your profile picture at the top right.

Tap “Settings.”

Activate the “Dark theme.”

That’s all.

Note that if you want to disable the dark theme, then follow the steps above. But instead of enabling it, disable it.
