How to Change Username and Password of Your Gmail Account

In this post, we’ll see the steps to change the username and password of your Gmail account. Let’s get started.

You can change the username of your Gmail account in Gmail web version (PC) and here is how:

​Sign into your Gmail account.

Click this URL (make sure you are signed in before clicking the URL), and it will take you to the “Accounts and Import” section.

Beside “Send mail as,” you can see your current username. Now, click on “edit info” link.

​In the popup, select the text field option and then enter the username you prefer in the field.

Click on “Save Changes” button.

That’s all. Your username is successfully changed.

Note: Keep in mind that you cannot change your email address.

Change Password of Your Gmail Account

Changing the password of your Gmail account at regular intervals will make your account more secure.

Keep in mind that changing the Gmail password will be applied to all your Google services such as Google Drive and YouTube.

In other words, if you change Gmail password, then you will need to use the same password to access all the Google services associated with that account.

Without further ado, let’s see how to do this task on PC (if you want to do this task on Android, check out the section below).

Sign into your Gmail account.

Click on this link. This link will take you to the “Accounts and Import” section of your Gmail account.

Click on “Change password” link.

Provide the password of your Gmail account.

Now, you will be on a screen (see below screenshot) where you need to input your new password twice. Make sure your password is at least eight characters, and your Password strength is “Strong.”

Keep in mind that changing the password will log you out of all the devices (including your mobile devices). So, after you have changed your password, you will need to sign in again on all the devices.

Once you entered your new password, click on “Change Password” button.

That’s it. All done. If you prefer, you can click on the “Get Started” button to review your recovery information and security settings.

Alternate Way

Go to this URL.

Under “Signing in to Google” section, find and click “Sign In” button.

Now, provide the email address and password of your Gmail account.

Click on “Password” option.

Provide your password again to verify it is you.

After that, you will be in this screen where you need to enter your new password into the two fields and then click on “Change Password” button.

Open Gmail app.

Tap Hamburger icon (three vertical lines).

Scroll down until you find “Settings.” Tap it.

Tap the email address for which you want to change the password.

Tap “My Account” option.

Tap “Sign-in & security.”

Tap “Password.” Now, provide your password and tap “Next.”

Provide your new password twice. Make sure your password is at least eight characters, and your password strength is “Strong.”

Go to this URL on your Android device.

Tap “Sign In.”
