In this post, we’ll see how to backup and restore call log on Android.
Note that I’m using an Android device running Oreo for this post. Let’s get started.
Backup Call Log on Android
You can backup call log on Android using inbuilt “Backup” feature (which you can find in Settings app > Google; We’ll see this feature in detail in another post) or third-party app (In our instance, it is “SMS Backup & Restore” app).
Let’s see how to do this task using a third-party app.
Install and open SMS Backup & Restore app. I suggest you to go through the app’s documentation in the Play Store.
After you’ve provided the permissions for the app, you should be on the main screen.
Tap “Set Up A Backup” button.
By default, “Messages” and “Phone calls” are selected for backup. In this instance, I want to the backup call log only. So I leave the “Phone calls” intact and unselect “Messages.”
Now, you need to select the location for your backup. Choose the one as per your wish. I suggest you go with cloud options. In this instance, I choose “Google Drive.”
Tap “Log In” option, select type of access and then choose your Google account. Provide permission, and you’ll be on this screen:
Configure other options on the screen if you wish. Now, tap “Test” button at the bottom to test the setup. If the setup is properly done, you’ll see a popup stating “Success.”
Tap the “Save” button to save the setup. Now, you can see a confirmation popup about the setting. Choose the option you prefer. In this instance, I choose “Yes.”
You can schedule recurring backups here. Choose the option as per your need.
In this instance, I choose “Daily.” If you want to change time or repeat frequency, then tap it, and you can change it now. Tap “Advanced Options” and use the options available there (if you wish).
Tap “Back Up Now.”
That’s it. All done.
Restore Call Log on Android
For restoring call log too, we’re using SMS Backup & Restore app.
Keep in mind that this app can only restore call log if you have taken call log backup using this app.
Open the app.
Tap Hamburger icon (three vertical lines) and then select “Restore.”
Choose the backup location. In this instance, I’m choosing “Google Drive Location.”
Now, you can see that the “Phone calls” is selected by default along with the recent backup. Use options under “Advanced Options,” if you wish.
That’s all. The app will do the restoration process, and once it is done, you’ll be notified via popup.
