In this post, we’ll see the steps to take a backup of your Twitter and Facebook accounts. Let’s get started.
Backup Twitter Account
Here, we’ll see the steps to take a backup of your Twitter account in PC and Android. Let’s see how to do it.
Twitter Web Version (PC)
Go to Twitter.
Click on your “Profile Picture,” and then “Settings and privacy.”
By default, you’ll land in the “Account” section.
Scroll down until you see the “Request your archive” button. Click on it.
Twitter will prepare your archive and email with a download link once it is complete. Keep in mind that it may take a few minutes, hours, or days to receive an email from them.
Once you receive the email, open it, and then click on the “Download now” button.
Log into your Twitter account if not already.
Now, you can see the “Download” button. Click on it.
That’s all. Your Twitter backup will download. Keep in mind that it is a Zip file and it will only contain all your tweets (including your first tweet) along with a few account information.
Unzip it and open the “index.html” file to see your backup in the browser.
If you want a backup of your Twitter profile information, then you need to take a backup on the Twitter app for Android. Continue reading to know how.
Twitter App (Android)
You cannot take a backup of your tweets on the Twitter app for Android.
However, you can take a backup of your Twitter profile information and some other data on the Twitter app.
Here’s how you can do that:
Open the Twitter app.
Tap “Profile Picture,” and then select “Settings and privacy.”
Tap Account > Your Twitter data.
By default, you will be landed on the “Your Profile” tab. Tap the “Your Data” tab.
Note: Check out all the fields of “Your Profile,” and “Your Data” tab because your backup will only contain all fields of both tab (except Profile location).
Scroll down and then click the “View” link beside the “Request your data.”
Tap on the “Request your data” link.
Twitter will email you once the backup is ready. It may take some time, a few minutes in my case.
After you received the email, open it.
The email will state “Your Twitter Data is Ready” and contain a PDF version of your Twitter data.
Download the PDF, and it will contain the fields under the “Your Profile” and “Your Data” tab.
Backup Facebook Account
Go to Facebook on PC.
Click “Inverted Triangle” at the top.
Now, click on the “Download a copy” link.
Click on the “Start My Archive” button.
Enter your password in the pop-up and then click the “Submit” button.
In the “Request My Download” pop-up, click on the “Start My Archive” button.
That’s it. Facebook will email to the email address registered with your Facebook account when your backup is ready to download.
It may take some time (a few minutes or hours) for Facebook to prepare the backup depends on your Facebook account data, a few minutes in my case.
Once you received the email, open it, and click the link in it.
Log into your Facebook account if not already.
Now, click on the “Download Archive” button.
Provide your password and click “Submit.”
That’s all. Your Facebook backup will download. Keep in mind that it is a Zip file.
Once downloaded, unzip it, and click the “index.html” file.
Your backup will contain the timeline, photos, videos, messages, events, pages, friends, and much more information.
Your backup may contain sensitive information. So, keep your backup in a safe place.
There is no option to take a backup on the mobile version of Facebook and Facebook for Android.
