How to Take a Backup of Your Twitter Account

You can take a backup of your Twitter account at any time you want using Twitter's inbuilt option.

Without further ado, let's see how to do this.

Backup Twitter Account

PC

Steps

  • angle-double-right
    Go to Twitter.
  • angle-double-right
Click on your "Profile Picture" and then "Settings and privacy."
  • angle-double-right
By default, you will land in "Account" section.
  • angle-double-right
Scroll down until you see "Request your archive" button. Click on it.
Request your archive button

The Twitter will begin to prepare your archive and send an email with a download link once it is complete. Keep in mind that it may take few minutes, hours, or days to receive an email from them.

Once you receive the email, open it and then click on "Download now" button.

That is all. Your Twitter backup will begin to download. Keep in mind that it is a Zip file and it will only contain all your tweets (including your first tweet) along with few account information.

Unzip it and open "index.html" file to see your backup in the browser.

If you want to take a backup of your Twitter profile data, then you need to take a backup on the Twitter app for Android. Continue reading to know how.

Android

You cannot take a backup of your tweets on the Twitter app for Android.

However, you can take a backup of your Twitter data (profile information and some other data; we will see that in a minute) on the Twitter app.

Here is how you can do that:

  • angle-right
    Open Twitter app.
  • angle-right
Tap "Profile Picture" and then select "Settings and privacy."
  • angle-right
Tap Account > Your Twitter data.
  • angle-right
By default, you will be landed on "Your Profile" tab. Tap "Your Data" tab.

Note: Check out all the fields of "Your Profile," and "Your Data" tab because your backup will only contain all fields of both tab (except Profile location).

  • angle-right
Scroll down and then click "View" link beside the "Request your data."
View link beside Request your data
  • angle-right
Tap on "Request your data" link.

The Twitter will email you once the backup is ready. It may take some time, few minutes in my case.

  • angle-right
After you received the email, open it.
  • angle-right
The email will state "Your Twitter Data is Ready" and contain a PDF version of your Twitter data.
  • angle-right
Download the PDF, and it will contain the fields under the "Your Profile" and "Your Data" tab.
