How to Backup and Restore Call Log on Android

Android devices do not have the inbuilt option to “backup call log.” If you need to take a call log backup, then the third-party app is the only way to go.

In this post, we will see an app which makes this task simple and helps us to do this task on the rooted and non-rooted Android devices. Let’s see what that is and how to use that.

Backup Call Log

Steps

    Install and open SMS Backup & Restore app. I suggest you to read the Play Store app’s documentation once.

    ​After you provide the permissions for the app, you should be on the main screen.

    ​Tap “Set Up A Backup” button.

    By default, messages and phone calls are selected for backup. In this instance, I just want to the backup call log. So I leave the Phone calls intact and unselect Messages.

    Tap Next.

    Now, you need to select the location for your backup. Choose the one as per your wish. I suggest you go with cloud options. In this instance, I choose “Google Drive”. Tap the switch beside Google Drive.

    Tap Log In button and log into your account. You can set other available options there as per your need.

    Once you did configuration, tap “Test” button at the bottom to test the setup. If the setup is properly done, you will get a success notification; Else, you will get a failure notification (At first, I received failure notification, but tapping Test button for the second time bring success notification).

    Once you received success notification, tap “Save” button to save the setup.

    Tap "Next."

    You can schedule recurring backups here. Choose the option as per your need. Tap “Advanced Options” and use the options available there (if you need).

    In this instance, I choose Daily. If you need to change time, tap the time and you can change it now.

    Tap “Back Up Now” button.

That’s it. The app will do the rest and put the backup on the Google Drive. The backup will be in the XML format.

Restore Call Log

Keep in mind that this app can only restore call log if you have taken call log backup using this app.

Here are the steps to restore:

    Open the app.

    ​Tap Hamburger icon (three vertical lines) and then select Restore.

    Choose the backup location. In this instance, we are going to choose Google Drive (Google Drive Location).

    Now, we can see the Phone calls is selected by default along with the recent backup.

    Tap Restore.

That is all. The app will do the restoration process and prompt you with success notification once done.
