How to Add or Remove Footer in Google Docs

Adding footer into a Google Docs document is a simple task and here's how you can do that on PC and Android:

PC

    ​Sign into Google Docs and then open the document you wish. Make sure you're in the first page of the document.

    ​Click on "Insert" at the top and then hover your mouse over "Header & page number." You can see the "Footer" option. Click on it.

    ​Now, enter the text you prefer.

    ​You can also see the "Different first page header/footer" option. If you want the same header and footer for all pages, leave this option intact. If you want a different header and footer for the first page and remaining pages, then select this option.

    ​If you've selected the "Different first page header/footer" option, then the text you've entered will be removed from the footer of the first page and the text will remain in the footer of the remaining pages. Now, you need to enter the text in the footer of the first page, and it will not affect the footer of the remaining pages.

    ​Hit the body of the document.

That's it. The footer is added successfully.

If you want to remove footer entirely from the document, then here are the steps:

  • angle-double-right
    ​Click on the footer of the first page.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Uncheck the "Different first page header/footer" if it is selected.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Now, press Ctrl + A and then hit the "Backspace" key in your keyboard.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Click on the body of the document.

That's all. The footer is removed successfully.

Android

  • angle-right
    ​Open Google Docs app.
  • angle-right
    ​Open the document you wish and then hit the "Pencil" icon at the bottom.
  • angle-right
    ​Hit the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top and then tap the "Print layout" option.

    ​Hit the bottom of the page.

    ​Now, enter the text you prefer.
  • angle-right
    ​Hit the body of the document.

That's all. The footer is added successfully.

If you want to delete footer entirely from the document, then here are the steps:

    Enable "Print layout" option​ if not already.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Hit the footer.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Now, select the text and then hit the "Backspace" key in your keyboard.
  • angle-double-right
    ​Hit the body of the document.

That's it. The footer is removed successfully.
