How to Turn Off Active Status on Facebook and Facebook Messenger (2021)

The “Active status” feature lets your friends and contacts know when you are active, recently active, and currently engaged in the same conversation as them.

This feature is enabled by default. If you prefer, you can turn it off.

Remember, the steps below only turn off the active status in which you’re applying. Let’s look at how to do it on PC, Android and iPhone.

PC

Sign into your Facebook account.

On the right sidebar, you will see three horizontal dots next to “Contacts.”

Hit “Turn off Active Status.”

You will see these three options in the pop-up:

  • Turn off Active Status for all contacts
  • Turn off active status for all contacts except
  • Turn off Active Status for only some contacts

Hit the “OK” button after selecting the first option.

That’s it.

Note: You can turn it on by clicking the three horizontal dots next to “Contacts.” Hit “Turn on Active Status.”

Alternate Way

Go to Messenger on Facebook.

Hit the three horizontal dots in the top right.

Click on Preferences.

Click Turn off Active Status.

You will see these three options in the pop-up:

  • Turn off Active Status for all contacts
  • Turn off active status for all contacts except
  • Turn off Active Status for only some contacts

Hit the “OK” button after selecting the first option.

That’s all.

Note: To turn it on, follow the steps above and you will see Turn on Active Status. Hit it.

Facebook Messenger for Android or iPhone

Open the Messenger app.

Tap your profile picture in the top right.

Hit “Active Status.” Disable the switch.

Tap “Turn Off” in the pop-up.

Note: To enable it, follow the steps above but enable the switch.

Facebook for Android or iPhone

Open the Facebook app.

Hit the three horizontal lines at the top if you’re using Android or the bottom if you’re using an iPhone.

Tap Settings & Privacy > Settings > Active Status.

Disable the switch.

In the pop-up, tap “Turn Off.”

Note: To enable it, follow the steps above but enable the switch.
